Guest rooms have been impeccably restored in keeping with the home’s original features without compromising today’s luxuries. Modern bathrooms, luxury bedding and flat screen televisions are just a few of the new additions. The homestead also has a magnificent billiard room, drawing room and dining room. The modern kitchen is located at the rear of the building, and the 3-room cellar below was once the convict workers’ quarters.
Quamby dining is a truly Tasmanian gourmet experience with menus showcasing the local produce of this region.
Set on 64 hectares,
Quamby Estate is located 20 minutes drive from the city of
Launceston and 25 minutes drive from Launceston Airport. Situated
near the historic township of Hagley, Quamby can be reached either
via the Bass Highway or Meander Valley Highway between Launceston
and Deloraine.
Entry to the Estate is along a 1.6km laneway lined by avenues of
magnificent hawthorn, poplar and elm trees with gaps between the
trees offering a glimpse to the distant Ben Lomond Ranges and the
manicured Quamby golf course in the grounds. Quamby’s landscape is
truly breathtaking. Many of the surrounding trees remain untouched
since planting 150 years ago. The rolling countryside is host to
lakes and streams. Murphett’s Creek creates a picture-book setting
with its fringe of mature willows.
Golf
Quamby’s beautiful 9-hole golf course was constructed in the
early 1990’s. Positioned on a high elevation, the fairways have
magnificent views to the Ben Lomond Ranges in the East and the
Great Western Tiers to the South. The fairways are lined by large
mature trees planted in rows with garden avenues, hedgerows,
watercourses, lakes and ponds. Built in the 1850’s, the original
Estate Manager’s office and home are now the golf club house, this
Georgian-style building complemented by an adjoining bar offering
light refreshments to golfers and guests.
Twice round, this nine-hole 6,847 metre course commands a par 76.
At 576 metres, the 8th hole is the longest par 5 in Tasmania.
There are 9 lakes, cascades, creeks and 3 challenging ‘Scottish’
bunkers. A major feature of the course, the beautifully groomed
bunkers are from specially refined Scottsdale sands. Clubs are
available for hire and caddies available on request.
Experiences
Quamby Estate’s original buildings include the granary,
machinery shed and shearing shed, all reminders of the history of
this once working agricultural estate. The wonderful old Georgian
stables have been converted to house the walking base for our
Cradle Mountain Huts and Bay of Fires walks. From here, the daily
walks depart and return, making a stay at Quamby Homestead a
convenient option.

Cliffs and Cave Tour ™ - available from Quamby Estate
Discovered more than 100 years ago by two mischievous boys
armed only with candles and adventurous spirits, the Marakoopa
caves are now one of Australia’s best guided cave tours. Featuring
disappearing creeks, amphitheatres of stalactite formations, and
gardens of growing stalagmites, the Marakoopa cave tour is also
home to the largest display of glow worms in Australia. During
this premium cave tour you will have the cave and tour-guide to
yourselves, leaving you to thoroughly absorb the atmosphere and
wonders of this hidden jewel, at your own pace.
After a gourmet lunch among the temperate rainforest, your guide
will then take you to one of the best look-outs in Tasmania – the
Alum Cliffs. Following an easy 30 minute walk through sclerophyll
forest, you’ll find yourself looking over the Mersey River as it
winds it’s way through the deep dolerite and limestone gorge that
forms part the Gog Range.
Tour departs at 10am, and arrives back at Quamby Estate at
approximately 3pm.
