Welcome to The Masters Lodge
The Masters Lodge is a small luxury lodge
positioned atop Bluff Hill in the Art Deco City
of Napier with spectacular views over the blue
South Pacific Ocean, Cape Kidnappers, the Art
Deco City of Napier and the Marine Parade.
The Masters Lodge is a landmark residence and was the home of one of
New Zealand's most wealthy entrepreneurs, Johann
Gerhard Husheer, Founder and Director of The
National Tobacco Company of New Zealand. The
Masters Lodge was designed by famed New Zealand
Architect Louis Hay in the early 1930s when he
also designed Napier’s most famous Art Deco
building – The National Tobacco Company
Building.
The Masters Lodge features original Art Deco and Art
Nouveau furnishings, servant bell system and
extensive leadlighting (stained glass)
throughout. The Beach, Shops, Restaurants,
Museums and Central Business District are all
within a 10 minute walk from the Lodge.
The Masters Lodge offers Only 2 Guest Suites each with
ensuite Bath. Each Suite overlooks Cape
Kidnappers, the Art Deco City of Napier, the
South Pacific Ocean and the Marine Parade.
Named "Kidnappers" and "Deco", each suite
reflects a major Hawke’s Bay attraction and
includes art deco furnishings, damask cotton bed
linens, goosedown duvets & pillows, walk-in
wardrobes, original works of art, the Bose®
Wave® music system, direct dial phone and modem
port. Each ensuite bathroom offers a separate
shower and original cast iron bathtub, natural
“Seascape” toiletries, Bellora bathrobes, hair
dryers and extra luxurious towels.
The Masters Lodge also offers a Living Room & Cocktail
Lounge, Formal Dining Room, Solarium with Sky
TV, CDs, Videos and Laptop with wireless
internet access, superbly stocked Wine Cellar,
Deco Drawing Room, shady Verandahs, beautifully
maintained Flower Gardens in park-like
grounds, off-street parking, and much, much
more!
Book the "Exclusive Use" of The
Masters Lodge and enjoy
this gracious residence as your private retreat!
After a day of golf, or tramping in the
wilderness or on the Wine Trail, indulge in a
luxurious Massage in the Solarium at The Masters
Lodge, savor a
refreshing drink on the wide Verandah, unwind
with the sights and fragrances of the Flower
Garden, or linger in our small Native Bush
inhabited by tui's & dancing fantails ... where
it is tempting to speculate that the Puka, Punga
and Puriri trees flourishing there are the very
specimens recorded in the hand-written notes of
Baron Husheer when he planted them in 1927 ...
and enjoy an intimate Gourmet Dinner served by
candlelight in the Dining Room, on the Verandah,
or in the Garden.
At The Masters Lodge Gourmet Dinners are
prepared by our own Chef and are complemented by
rare local wines from our extensive wine cellar.
The highlight for wine enthusiasts staying at
the The Masters Lodge is certainly the Dinner
with the Winemaker. For the Art Deco
enthusiasts, we will arrange an Art Deco Dinner
to include a private tour of the Art Deco City
in a vintage car, cocktails and a hosted dinner
at the Lodge with your personal expert in Art
Deco architecture and design. Or, join our Chef
in The Masters Lodge Kitchen for a personal
Culinary Class where you will learn to prepare
the evening’s culinary delights. This is a
”hands-on” opportunity to actually help the Chef
prepare your own meal while learning about New
Zealand cuisine, Hawke's Bay meats, seafood and
produce, and professional cooking techniques.
After a refreshing sleep, awake to the sound of
the ocean and the chorus of native birds in the
bush & garden. Start your day with a delicious
breakfast on the shady Verandah, in the Garden,
or in the impressive Dining Room, and soak up
the scenic splendour that matches the quality of
The Masters Lodge! |

Pacific Ocean, or perhaps to enjoy a glass of
the best champagne at sunset.
The ensuite bathroom is restored to its original
beauty with original tiles, white-ware, glass
towel holders, shaving mirror and tooth-brush
holder. This bathroom is featured in the Art
Deco book "Styles of the Thirties" by Peter
Shaw.

down duvets & pillows, walk-in wardrobes,

"Back at the
Lodge, dinner is about to be served – a
showpiece in itself. The menu,
individualised with each guest’s name,
heralds the evening’s feast of New Zealand
produce, including manuka smoked salmon and
beef fillet. Matched with local,
hard-to-find wines especially selected by
Larry, the long, luscious dinner puts the
icing on a perfect Hawke’s Bay stay."
Homes & Living Magazine, February
2004 by Tina Altieri

"Guests
at The Master's Lodge should strongly
consider having dinner in-house. Dinner at
The Master's Lodge is a personalized
experience apropos of a special occasion.
Larry and Joan Blume have retained the
services of one of the finest chefs in New
Zealand to prepare a memorable,
custom-designed feast. Entrées range from
juicy steaks to traditional tenderloins,
venison, crayfish and other seafood, as well
as heron, pheasant, and succulent black
swan. Using the freshest local ingredients,
the chef’s creations highlight intriguing
combinations of flavors. The Blumes consult
with the chef to recommend the perfect
Hawke’s Bay wines to accompany the meal.
Larry, who waited tables to pay his way
through law school, provides exquisite
service. Dinner is served in the dining
room or, on especially lovely evenings,
outside on the verandah."
