bothfeet walking lodge - Great Ocean Road
Opened in December 2008, the bothfeet
walking lodge - Great Ocean Road is owned and operated by
bothfeet for the exclusive use of their walkers.
How can you stay? The only way to stay is to join one of our
Great Ocean Walks. It is a walking lodge, built by walkers for walkers. So
when you stay you will be sharing your experience with other
people hiking the Great Ocean Walk.
A stunning example of sustainable design
To quote bothfeet
"To us, creating a haven for
our walkers had to be best
practice. We are already Advanced Eco-Certified by Eco Tourism
Australia as a tour operator, so our place to stay had to match
this commitment to sustainable operation.
We have used one of the best sustainable architects, Stephen
Sainsbury, and his building company to create a minimal impact
retreat near Johanna Beach on the Great Ocean Road. Located at
the midpoint of the Great Ocean Walk, we do have walk in and walk
out opportunities on some days or we operate short shuttle
transfers at the start and end of others.
Our building materials were chosen based on their
sustainability and emissions during production and we tried to
minimise our impact on the site itself. Stephen has utilised
passive solar design and cross ventilation to reduce our
requirements for heating and cooling. We use harvested spring
water and rain water and the sun for heating, but we do supplement
it with a gas booster so no one goes without a hot shower!
The interior fabrics use natural hemp and vegetable and plant
dyes as the accent colours and we supply you with natural soaps
and tea tree based shampoos that are kind to our grey water system
and in turn kind to our garden.
The only place to stay on your Great Ocean Walk experience
Many of our walkers only intend to walk the Great Ocean Walk
once so we created a space that will make your visit very
special. Wake up to bird song, take breakfast in a setting that
glows in the morning light, and return each night to put both feet
in a custom foot spa, a glass of red in hand and the best walking
cuisine in the world at our table.
