In a serene alpine woodland setting on the edge of Tasmania's World Heritage Area, Cradle Mountain Hotel is your base for exploration of the wilderness. During the day, enjoy short walks to mountain lakes and ancient forests, climb to ice-carved peaks, cast for a trout, tour by 4WD or on horseback - in the evening, return to the comforts of the Hotel, with its cheerful log fires, fine restaurants and acclaimed Wilderness Gallery, one of the world's most superb collections of nature photography. Cradle Mountain Hotel is located close to the northern boundary of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, just two hours' drive from Launceston, one hour from Devonport or 1.5 hours from Strahan.
Restaurants and Bars
From the north, the road to Cradle passes through the island’s most fertile farming areas. The croplands of the North West Coast produce splendid vegetables, including Tasmania’s renowned varieties of potatoes, which flourish in the rich, red volcanic soil.
Dairy herds of Friesians and Jerseys graze lush dairy pastures – local cheesemakers craft the milk into full-flavoured cheeses. Sinfully-rich double cream – too thick to pour – is a regional specialty.
Quoll's restaurant
At Cradle Mountain Hotel you’ll savor all these
local food and wine delights in our three bistros
and restaurants. Quolls Casual Dining is perfect
for breakfast, lunch, coffee and light meals, seven
days a week.
The elegant Brushtails Bar is the ideal place for a pre-dinner drink or nightcap – and you’ll dine in style at The Grey Gum, our signature à la carte restaurant.
The Wilderness Gallery
Tasmania’s internationally-renowned wilderness photographers
have shown the world the amazing wild landscapes
– the peaks, lakes, forests, oceans shorelines and
unique wildlife – of this southern island. The works
of our best photographers glow from the walls of
the ten rooms of the Wilderness Gallery, which is
recognised as one of the world's finest collections
of nature photography. Built around a central garden
of native alpine plants, rocks and pools, the gallery
incorporates a compact theatre and gift shop. And
after you’ve enjoyed the marvelous photographic
images in the galleries, you can venture out from
Cradle Mountain Hotel with your own camera to explore
and capture the same wilderness that inspired the
photographers.
