Accommodation

Eleven rooms in total, comprising two Garden deluxe rooms, four Garden rooms, and a Courtyard room with its own courtyard make glorious use of the garden with many rooms opening out through French doors to the rhododendron and azalea gardens.
In the residence, the four bedrooms are sumptuously outfitted in fabulous fabrics, fine antiques and deeply comfortable Islington Angel beds that guests never wish to leave. Each room has a very distinctive design flourish, celebrating one of the many early Tasmanians who provided inspiration for the hotel.

Room 1

The equal access room, this has its very own veranda and private courtyard. The sun streams into this gorgeous room decorated in rich caramel, eau de nil green and aquamarine blue silks. Artwork and antiques complete the décor the highlight of which is the original sandstone convict built stable wall that runs the length of the room.

Over 45 sq metres of luxurious living. A Biedermeier themed room in the house itself, centre-piece is a huge Austro-Hungarian Empire bed, a fireplace with working electric fire and luxurious furnishings upholstered in lush chocolate silks from Jim Thompson. On one side French doors lead onto a private garden and on the other, a luxurious marble bathroom with deep bath, and separate shower stall.

Room 3

Large, bright and sunny, this suite has views of the mountain, and celebrates buttercup and blues as its colour motif. Original pressed-tin ceilings evoke the original character of the room, and French doors open to views of the mountain. Louisa Anne Meredith – whose books on early Tasmania are to be found in the library – is the name of this elegant residence room.

Room 4

This room on the first floor overlooks the gardens and has distant views of Hobart’s harbour. Greens, golds and tans colour themes complement the furnishings and decorations. This will be the Marianna Lloyd suite, wife of an early Mayor of Launceston and the originator of the 1840’s quilt that hangs in the Islington library.

Room 5

The John Collicott Room is a small but lovely room perched high in the house, adjacent to the Conservatory. This is one of our favorites, decked as it is in fresh citrus silks, and in pride of place in the Library the original oil painting of the early Post Master General John Collicott. Marble screen bathroom, with bath and separate rain shower complete this luxurious nest.
