Canterbury Region and Christchurch Golf Courses
Clearwater Golf Course
The par 72 championship course is home to the NZ PGA Championship. Designed by John Darby in consultation with New Zealand golfing legend, Sir Bob Charles, the course combines elements of links golf inspired by the great Scottish courses with parkland golf, more reminiscent of Florida.
Playable year-round, the course meanders around a succession of spring-fed lakes and trout-filled streams, with uninterrupted views of the spectacular Southern Alps.
There are five tee positions to suit players of all abilities.
Christchurch Golf Club
Phone: (03) 385 9506
Holes: 18 Par: 73 Length: 6045m
The Christchurch Golf Club was founded in 1873, making it the second oldest Club in New Zealand. Its early play was at courses in Hagley Park and in the general area where the Russley Golf Club is now. However, in 1900 leases were taken out on three portions of land which form the core of the Shirley Links that the Club has used for 100 years.
Harewood Golf Club
Phone: (03) 359 8843
Holes: 36 Par: 72 Length: 5801m
Playing here means you have the choice of two top quality, contrasting courses and the opportunity to enjoy our excellent Clubhouse facilities. We pride ourselves on the social atmosphere and our friendly professional staff. We encourage anyone looking to test their golfing abilities on challenging courses, with the prospect of making some new friends along the way, to come and join us.
Harewood Golf Club is proud to offer you two challenging, but contrasting
golf courses. Although quite different in appearance, both courses are very
well drained and have excellent quality greens, year round. They appear
to have relatively flat fairways but are, in fact, deceptively undulating.
When you add in the spectacular views of the Southern Alps and the Port
Hills in the background, youíre sure to enjoy your day. To help you warm
up, there are two practice putting greens, a practice fairway, and a chipping
green available for use.
Woodlands Old Course
Tree-lined, and demanding accuracy of the tee, the Old Course provides a great challenge to all levels of golfer, especially when set up for championships. Measuring over 6000m for the men off the back tees and over 5400m for the women, the course has well-grassed fairways and excellent greens.
The Plains New Course
More like a links course in appearance, the New Course offers wide fairways and excellent greens. However, take it lightly at your peril. To score well, a golfer has to keep it on the fairway or else an awkward lie is likely.
Russley Golf Club

Holes: 18 Par: 72 Length: 6056m
Established in 1928 by hardy folk who loved the game, Russley is now 81 years old and stands as one of New Zealandís premier courses. Our history contains some interesting events, from a war time role housing airport security personnel, the plane crash of 1957 to the many prestigious golf tournaments including the New Zealand Open.
Our most famous golfing son, Ross Murray, was one of New Zealandís outstanding amateurs in the same era as Bob Charles. Today a magnificent clubhouse, opened in 1994, overlooks a great championship course.
Visitors are welcome to play the course every day of the week, however Russley has over one thousand playing members and also hosts tournaments so bookings are essential, as far in advance as possible.

Tai Tapu Golf Club
Phone: (03) 329 6710 (Club)
Holes: 9 Par: 70 Length: 5445m
This pleasant compact nine-hole course is not long but does demand accuracy off the tee to remain comfortably on the fairways. The greens are generously sized and to the delight of the average golfer, there are only ten bunkers on the course. A major reconstruction of #1 green has provided a challenging start to a round of golf. The clubhouse, including the Bar, is open most days during normal working hours. On sunny summer days the balcony provides a pleasant setting for after-round refreshments. Voted best country course in New Zealand
Terrace Downs Golf Course
(South & Inland in the foothills of the Southern Alps)
Terrace Downs offers a par 72, 18-hole championship golf course, rated
as one of the top courses and golfing destinations in New Zealand. Based
at the foothills of the Southern Alps, there are very few scenic alpine
courses like it.
The course was designed by Sid Pudicombe and Associates in 1993 and officially opened in December 2001. It offers a unique mixture of Parklands and Links style with the underlying philosophy of the course development assuring its integration into the natural environment and the respect and enjoyment of all who play on it. The views of the Rakaia Gorge and mountain vistas remain a constant challenge for players to keep their eye on the ball!
At par 72, the course is challenging. However, a choice of four tees on each hole ensures the course caters for a range of golfing abilities. The 6,440-metre long course incorporates 11 lakes and 70 bunkers, providing plenty of obstacles for even the most experienced player.
The signature hole for Terrace Downs is the 16th. The short par three plays 100 metres off the regular tees and can often be quite treacherous. The fairway clings to the side of the Rakaia Gorge and includes spectacular views of the Rakaia River and the towering Mt Hutt.
