OTAGO RAIL TRAIL DAY TRIPS
Option A - From Dunedin
Departing Dunedin on the Taieri Gorge Train at 9.30am and being picked up from Pukerangi at 11.30am. Travel 20km on our bus to our base in Middlemarch. We transport you North to Hyde where we will have lunch at the Hyde Café. We will take our clients through to Daisy Bank where you will ride back towards Hyde on our comfort bikes. Travel over the Prices Viaduct and through the tunnel to arrive at Hyde 14.5km later or carry on to Rock and Pillar for further 14km.(dependant on time available) We will then travel back to Pukerangi where we meet the train at 4.45pm. Summer schedule (Oct-April) Fridays and Sundays the train travels to Middlemarch instead of Pukerangi.
Minimum distance cycled: 14.5km, mostly downhill .Maximum Distance 28.5km
This supported Day Tripper Includes:
- Experienced driver who will ensure that you have a safe, informative and interesting tour
- All transport arrangements from Dunedin and back and everything in between
- Bike Hire: including helmet, carrier bag, repair kit and pump. Your choice of mountain or comfort Hybrid Bike.
- Meals. Lunch provided at the Hyde Café .
Option B - From Clyde
(Clyde is 1 hour drive from Queenstown, Wanaka or Arrowtown)
Fit with bikes and depart our Clyde base at the start of the Rail Trail at 9.15am, we transport you North into the peace and quiet of the Ida Valley. Before you begin, we will provide you with a light snack and answer any last minute questions that you may have about the tour. The ride will take you through the Poolburn Gorge featuring two tunnels and two viaducts all set in a secluded rocky gorge. They then cycle the remainder of the morning through to Omakau where we will stop at the Omakau Commercial Hotel for lunch. After lunch back on the bikes to cycle the remainder of the trail through Chatto Creek (option to be picked up from here if requested, included in the price) and then Alexandra. In Alexandra, clients can carry on the Rail Trail to our office in Clyde, or taking the scenic, peaceful River Track back to Trail Journeys. Return back to Trail Journeys in Clyde before 5.00pm.
Minimum distance cycled: 30km, mostly downhill, maximum distance is 58k’s
This Supported Day Tripper Includes:
- Transport from our base in Clyde to the start of your adventure in the Ida Valley
- Bike Hire: including helmet, carrier bag, repair kit and pump. Your choice of mountain or comfort Hybrid Bike.
- Meals. Light snack before starting our tour, Lunch provided at the Omakau Commercial Hotel. Set menu.
- Pickup from the trail at Chatto Creek or Alexandra if required.
Option C - From Queenstown
Transport from Queenstown to Clyde on Intercity bus leaving Queenstown at 7.45am. Fit with bikes and depart our Clyde base at the start of the Rail Trail at 9.15am, we transport you North into the peace and quiet of the Ida Valley. Before you begin, we will provide you with a light snack and answer any last minute questions that you may have about the tour. Queenstown option uses public transport leaving Queenstown at 7.45am and returning to Queenstown arriving at 6.30pm.
