Fiordland New Zealand
Small group guided tours and trips Milford Sound New Zealand

Trips N Tramps

Explore Milford Sound with our legendary unhurried Fiordland day trips departing from Te Anau

Welcome to Trips 'n' Tramps. We operate from the lakeside resort of Te Anau on the edge of Fiordland National Park - a World Heritage Area. We are two hours closer to Milford Sound than Queenstown is, and this allows us to spend much more time exploring the wilderness along the Milford Road.

Options

Our Milford Sound Coach & Cruise runs every day, a friendly unhurried day out for the whole family.

  • Small groups, modern comfortable small coaches, includes full fiord nature cruise, time out along the way for short easy bush walks (optional), complimentary tea/coffee

Our Milford Sound "The Big Day Out" Cruise Milford Sound and explore the Hollyford Valley or hike the Routeburn Track to Key Summit - hiking and photography at its best!

  • As for our Coach and Cruise above, plus approximately 2 ½ hours amidst the spectacular scenery of Hollyford Valley, Routeburn Track, Key Summit area - a great day out for those that want to see more of Fiordland.

Our staff is what we feel makes us special.

No New Zealand holiday is complete without a visit to Incomparable Fiordland.

In this South-West corner of New Zealand's South Island, Fiordland National Park occupies three and a half million acres of wild and virtually uninhabited Wilderness.

The sheer magnificence, vastness and mystique of this Masterpiece of Creation will be etched forever on the mind of even the most seasoned of travellers. This is a land of lofty, snow-capped Mountains cloaked with dense and ancient forests, of glaciated valleys, often with exquisite lakes, crystal rivers and of course the classic coastal fiords of which Milford and Doubtful are but only two.

Drawn to Fiordland from the world's four corners, visitors find here a place to satisfy the widest spectrum of interests and passions. Whether your quest is a leisurely sightseeing holiday with all the finest of 'creature comforts', or an action-packed adventure, there's something here for everyone: hiker, climber, photographer, angler, hunter, kayaker, diver, horse-rider, golfer or a seeker of solitude in a faraway, mystical place, come on down to Fiordland.

The friendly lakeside towns of Te Anau and Manapouri, strategically located at the Gateway to Fiordland are the ideal base for travellers exploring this region.

Milford Sound Coach & Cruise

Milford Sound small group tour and cruise - NO HURRY!

Departs Te Anau 8.30am every day, all year round

A leisurely, memorable trip for all ages

Instead of placing all our daily clients on one large bus and joining the multitudes, we use several smaller coaches, each driven by a local nature-guide. Our guides are attentive to the needs and interests of individuals or groups.

Each tour includes a full-fiord nature cruise, and, depending on weather and season, we favour an extended nature-based excursion using a vessel of smaller capacity. Several cruise options are available including underwater observatory (Milford Deep).

We can also access the "special wayside places", for photography, wildlife, rainforest, wildflowers etc. and for some short, easy (optional) nature walks.

At a suitably scenic location along the Milford Road, your guide will provide complimentary tea / coffee and cookies. Lunch may be taken along or can be ordered on request.

We operate only from Te Anau, the friendly lakeside resort at the gateway to Fiordland and close to both Milford and Doubtful Sounds. Here you will find a wide range of excellent accommodation, restaurants, shopping and other tourist services.

Milford Sound Big Day Out

Cruise Milford & explore the Hollyford Valley or Hike the Routeburn Track to Key Summit

Gentians on Gertrude Saddle

FIRST WE EXPLORE & HIKE!!!
The morning drive to Milford Sound with scenic stops is memorable in itself. We add that to either;

2 ½ hours leisurely exploring in the less visited Lower Hollyford Valley This option includes an easy 25 minute nature walk to the 300m high Humbolt falls and a visit to Gunns Camp & Museum,

or

2 ½ hours hiking on the Routeburn Track to the Key Summit. A steady climb on a well formed track takes us from the Milford Road to our vantage point on Key Summit.

Stunning views of soaring peaks and ice carved valleys are an ample reward for our efforts.

THEN WE CRUISE !!!
A glorious two hour Nature Cruise to the Tasman Sea and return on a vessel of smaller capacity.

After the cruise, the evening light escorts us back to Te Anau

LUNCH: may be pre ordered or you are most welcome to bring your own.
TEA/COFFEE: complimentary
