Between the
towering peaks of the South Island’s Southern
Alps and the expanse of the Tasman Sea, lies a
narrow strip of land the people fondly call the
“West Coast”.
Descriptions
of this land evoke terms such as “the Wild
West Coast”, the “last frontier” and “this
enchanted land”- all of which appear in
tourism promotion and all of which are true.
Central
to the West Coast is the area around Greymouth.
Here you will find popular attractions such as
Shanty Town, the Pancake Rocks and the scenic
Coast Road (Highway 6) that links Westport to
Greymouth. It is on this road; 14kms north from
Greymouth, that you find the “Breakers” –
one of the most spectacular located Bed &
Breakfast accommodation houses in New Zealand.
Guests comments, made in the visitor’s book,
consistently highlight three special features of
“The Breakers” – Incredible views,
wonderful meals and warm hospitality.
This
homestay or bed and breakfast has 3 rooms and 2
suites, all
with ensuite facilities and sea views. A quality
dinner is available (with notice) and will include
a good New Zealand wine. A private track to the
beach allows easy access for guests to look for pounamu (jade) and pretty stones. There is a wide
selection of attractions and activities close to
us and we will be delighted to provide advice for
your visit to our area.
