Hadleigh is a unique Arts and Crafts style home offering boutique accommodation within fifteen minutes easy walk of Christchurch's inner city attractions. These include, The Cathedral Square, The Visitors Centre, Historic Trams, Botanical Gardens, Art Centre, Museum, Casino, Hagley Park and of course many fine Restaurants, as well as Fashion and Antique shops.

Hadleigh's architectural significance has been recognised and its preservation assured through its classification by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.

Set amongst mature trees on a magnificent corner site just off the busy avenue that surrounds the CBD, Hadleigh is a tranquil oasis. We encourage guests to explore the extensive garden, follow the little paths and vistas to where there are places to rest, maybe relax with a book, beer or glass or wine and enjoy the ambience of a gracious age.

 

 

Hadleigh is a very large home extending to over 7000 sq ft. Our decision to offer just four suites has been deliberate. Perhaps we are selfish, we prefer to have time for our guests. We enjoy sharing travel experiences, discussing aspects of life in New Zealand and learning about other countries too. We also like to just chat, assist with itinerary ideas, or smooth out travel problems if they arise. Similarly our own travel experience reminds us of the importance of having room to relax and take time out from a busy travel schedule.

Guest kitchen and laundry
The refrigerator in the guest kitchen is stocked with complimentary beer and a variety of mixers. There is also a selection of specialty teas. The microwave, cutlery, extra crockery and wine glasses allows guests to prepare light meals or snacks if they wish. We offer a same day complimentary wash and fold laundry service. There is an iron and board in the guest kitchen which is conveniently located next to the suites.

Breakfast
Breakfast is arranged at times that are convenient to our guests. Included are a variety of fresh fruit juices, home made jams, cereals, yoghurt, hot Hadleigh baked bread, muffins, pikelets and pastries. A traditional cooked breakfast is also available.

Katie
Katie is neither a 'facility' or 'service' but a friendly 6 year old yellow Labrador who is part of the family. She believes it is her task to ensure that all guests are comfortable and welcome, this in exchange for a tummy rub of course ! Please note, for the safety and comfort of all, smoking is permitted only in the garden.

Rooms & Facilities:

THE SUITES
All suites have private bathrooms with personal amenities as well as hair dryer, shaver plug, heated towel rail and robes. Each room offers comfortable seating, TV, coffee/tea making, complimentary home baking and a carafe of port. There are also fresh flowers, glossy magazines, a fully equipped writing compendium and a dining out/local attractions folder.

Cartwright Suite A large elegant Victorian style King/Twin room with extensive garden views. The Victorian theme is enhanced by the Grandmother and Grandfather chairs and also the magnificent tiled bathroom with original claw footed bath, there is also a separate walk in shower. An ideal honeymoon suite.
Goddard Suite This is a large sunny Queen room, the private balcony overlooking the garden evokes a sense of medieval times, this is accentuated by the room furnishings and intriguing slate bathroom. A great hideaway for newlyweds or those who seek something different.
Kempthorne Suite This is an Arts and Crafts style suite overlooking a small garden courtyard. The soft furnishing fabrics introduce the style of the era. There are two Queen bedrooms, with space to accommodate a group of three or four travelling together. There is a private bathroom within the suite.
