Ounuwhao Russell Bed and Breakfast Bay of Islands
- B&B Accommodation
Indulge in luxurious, seaside accommodation at
Ounuwhao. We are alongside a grassed reserve
bordered by century-old Norfolk pines, opposite
picturesque Matauwhi Bay - a favourite mooring-place
for yachts. Ounuwhao is a short two-minute drive or
a casual 10-minute stroll to Russell village.
We offer superior B & B accommodation in four queen rooms, two with extra single bed - all with en-suite or private bathrooms.
The two front rooms feature their own washstand
and have French doors opening onto the verandah and
conservatory area, with sea views.
All bathrooms are decorated with old-fashioned, hand-painted 'Georgian' tiles and have showers and toilets; two also have a claw-footed bath.
Staying in our guestrooms will take you back to a different era. Each room is decorated individually, with hand-made patchwork quilts, brass beds, and fresh flowers from our garden. The lodge rooms ooze charm and offer a tranquil nights sleep, whilst every attention to detail is taken care of.
Enjoy the comfortable lounge, with tea and coffee available all day, television, magazines, a wide selection of books and the daily newspaper. Relax in our guest lounge or enjoy a book or cup of tea on our wide-sweeping verandahs, in the conservatory, or surrounded by flowers in our cottage garden, whilst enjoying the ever-changing water in the bay.
Breakfast is served daily for in house and Garden Suite guests only between 8.00 and 9.00 am in our dining-room. Sit around our large farmhouse table and enjoy a home-cooked breakfast which might include:

Your host Marilyn says,
"I LOVE to cook and breakfast is a very special
occasion @ Ounuwhao.
I make all the jams/preserves from fruit grown organically in the cottage orchard.
The organically grown vegetable garden supplies much of the vegetables and garnishes used in preparation of the Special cooked dishes served daily.
Freshly baked bread using recipes I have written myself, is also made into toast.
Bircher muesli...organic grains, seeds and nuts soaked in apple juice with a fresh apple added in the a.m. and finished with a little yoghurt or cream is a real treat: served most days along with my own low-fat homemade yoghurt. If you enjoy good food, you will certainly find sharing b/fast around the large kauri timber dining table a really enjoyable experience."
