Description:
|

The kauri villa has accommodated guests since 1890 and has recently been carefully restored by it's owners Nicole and Chris, retaining it's history and character.
Relax in the lounge by the open fire, in the sunroom library, or choose a wine from the bar to enjoy on the deck overlooking the three acres of gardens. Comfort-lovers can surrender to a massage, while nature's experiences will fill your day. At night the Milky Way and night skies can be seen like nowhere else, as you fall asleep in the huge soft beds to the sound of our little native owls and rare kiwi.
We offer attention to detail, in relaxed gracious surroundings. Dinner is prepared by our chef, and served at a time of your choice in the dining room, from organic produce grown in our garden, premium natural meats and accompanied by notable New Zealand wines.

Four luxuriously appointed and newly designed apartments, overlooking the forest, are housed in the historic farm buildings. Tile bathrooms, private lounges, en suites, king beds, robes, CDs and quality linen are yours to enjoy. The landscaped gardens, filled with birdsong, lead to a native bush walk at the bottom of the garden.
Rest at Waipoua Lodge after your international flight, spend some days relaxing and visiting the forest, lakes and sea. Then follow the Twin Coast Discovery Highway on to the Hokianga and the Bay of Islands.

To enable our guests to stay in absolute luxury in the stunning and remote beauty of the Kauri Coast. To 'bathe' in the peace, the culture, the history and the ecology of our ancient kauri forests, crystal clear lakes and wild golden-sand coastline.

to produce foods, and where possible we order the best extra virgin
olive oils, tamaris, and products without GE ingredients to keep our
bodies healthy.

export quality producers. We only buy the best meats available, to
ensure it melts deliciously in your mouth.

Activities & Exploring
Forest
|
The Waipoua Forest is
just two kilometers from the lodge with walks from 10 minutes
through to long tramps. Find a magic spot in the forest to share
with some of the birdlife, native plants, tiny orchids and ferns
that surround this land. The largest rainforest tree in NZ, Tane
Mahuta (God of the forest) and Te Matua Ngahere are
majestic trees where you can soak in the beauty of nature. Near the
Forest Headquarters is a swimming hole in the clean clear
river running through the forest, a great way to cool off over
summer.
Recommended is the
Guided Night Walk in which you can see the forest and rare Kiwi in
the wild.
Trounson Kauri
Park is a smaller pocket of mature native
forest with a good walking track. This is one of only two 'mainland
islands' in New Zealand where predators can be controlled.
Resultant, there is a proliferation of bird life and vegetation
including 'Te Kiwi', our national icon.
|
|
Lakes
|
The Kai Iwi Lakes
are gin-clear fresh water lakes near Waipoua Lodge that shine
sapphire blue in the sun. Spend the day swimming at the safe
beach, kayaking or walking around the lakes.
The lakes are stocked
annually with 'fingerling' trout and they grow BIG. We can
arrange a boating guide and necessary licenses.
|
 |
Sea
|
Remote, deserted,
golden-sand beaches
The Maunganui Bluff - a
1500 foot high sentinel that marks the end of New Zealands
longest driveable beach, where you will be one of the only
people on the beach.
At Baylys Beach hire a
quad bike and freedom ride down the golden sand beach and
dunes. From the clubhouse at Baylys Beach the view down the fairways
to the sea is breathtaking - hire your clubs and play a game of
golf to remember.
The Hokianga Harbour
- one of the jewels of the north is 40 mins from the lodge. You can
boogie-board down vast sand dunes, walk the coastal tracks - with
breathtaking views over the harbour - or swim in waterfalls and at
sheltered beaches.
|
|
Exploring by Four Wheel Drive |
If you are able to bring a four wheel
drive to the lodge, we can send you on roads and forest tracks that
are inaccessible by car and will lead you to unspoilt wilderness
locations. At the lodge, we have two kayaks you can throw on your roof
rack for leisurely paddling around the Kai Iwi Lakes.
Alternatively, book our fabulous guided four wheel drive tours of
the surrounding area. The beauty of our tour guides is their knowledge
of the area. Tours range from a few hours through to a full day. We
design the tour to suit you - the guides can take you surfcasting, or
they may drive you down to any of the beaches and dunes, over normally
inaccessible private farmland and the through the beautiful forests.

Relaxation - For the more sedate... |
In Dargaville you can enjoy the quiet
beauty of our Maritime Museum, Cafes and a fantastic Art Gallery full
of works by Northland's best artists. Also of interest is the Zizania
Paper Company, where you can try your hand at making paper, or learn
to turn your own Kauri wooden bowl from a local craftsman.
