Fly fishing - part of the Canterbury experienceClaremont Estate is a really great place to use as a hub or base for your Canterbury experience. We are less than an hours drive to Christchurch City centre, yet only an hour and a half scenic drive to Kaikoura and whale watching, and about 50 minutes' drive to Hanmer Springs spa and thermal pools. Some of the world's renowned trout and salmon fishing rivers are within an easy drive of Claremont Estate. For the pursuit of salmon, the rivers of the Waiau, Waimakariri and Rakaia are ideal or experienced guides can take you to more remote trout fishing spots at lakes and rivers in the Southern Alps. Likewise, hunters can be guided in pursuit of chamois, tahr, deer, feral goats, wild pig, and rabbit. With advance notice we can arrange guides for your fishing or hunting excursions.

In winter, skiers may choose from a day at one of several Canterbury ski fields just a short drive away or some world class heli-skiing.

Golfers have many choices, from the championship courses of Clearwater Resort, Nr. Christchurch, Terrace Downs Resort, Hanmer Springs to the fascinating and inexpensive local country courses nearby at Amberley and Greta Valley.

As well, jet boating, horse trekking, hot air ballooning, bungy jumping and a number of other great outdoor excursions suitable for all levels can also be easily arranged for guests.
