Earthsong Lodge can tailor a variety of adventures to suit guests' personal interests. Much of Great Barrier Island, located in Auckland's Hauraki Gulf Marine Park, is a treasured sanctuary for many native plants and wildlife species. The unique location of Earthsong Lodge enables guests interested in ecology to easily explore the habitat of some of New Zealand's rarest and endangered wildlife. The Island's virgin forests are laced with walking tracks ranging from easy short walks to day tramps suitable for all levels of fitness. You can explore the Barrier at your leisure by four-wheel drive vehicle. Discover secluded natural hot springs or walk hand in hand along the shoreline of romantic white sandy beaches.

Fish the Barrier - a must for the enthusiast. Fishing charter operators offer half and full day charters to the Island's abundant fishing grounds. You will be welcomed aboard Fish N Missions 4.2 metre centre console open boat, especially designed to access both coasts of this beautiful island. With spectacular views of the rugged coastline and clear blue seas as a backdrop, fishing is the perfect way to experience Great Barrier Island. Your skipper and personal guide, Richard "Scallop" Robertson specializes in small groups, and Fish N Missions takes you to secret locations offering fishing from the boat or off the rocks on a reef top ledge. All rods, reels, bait and tackle are supplied.

Helicopter charters can be arranged for you to experience the ultimate in heli-fishing. Head out by helicopter to a remote rock ledge above a deepwater drop-off in search of monster Snapper or Kingfish. Heletranz are the pioneers of helifishing and after almost two decades have discovered some great locations and also an understanding of what makes fishermen happy.

Rods, reels, tackle, bait, light refreshments and lunch are included as well as your pilot who is there assisting with gear, bait and fish. He can also be found passing around cups of tea and lunch because when the fishing's hot this is the only way you'll get to eat. Heletranz will work out the best time to go helifishing to coincide with tides, moon and your own calendar of activities .

Heletranz own and operate a 43 foot motor launch, designed to transport you to remote and beautiful locations around the Great Barrier in comfort and safety.

MV Angie is a modern, luxury vessel, capable of getting you to the offshore islands and fishing spots quickly. Her skipper has fifteen years of commercial fishing experience around Great Barrier and the Hauraki Gulf. Everything is available onboard - fishing gear, canoes, diving equipment (by request) and of course, delightful meals and wines of the region.

Glenfern Sanctuary - This guided walk follows a stream, crossing small foot bridges to the head of a valley and the start of the Kauri Tree Track. Here steps and boardwalks wind up through mature virgin forest to a spectacular suspension bridge which takes you into the crown of a 600-year-old kauri tree. Twenty different native species can be identified from the bridge while a good view of the harbour can be seen from the platform built in the crown of the tree. Another part of the walk takes you to Sunset Rock which provides a commanding view down FitzRoy Harbour and over to Mt Hobson. The track winds down through farmland, passing a flocking pond created for the declining population of endangered brown teal ducks. Several other critically endangered wildlife species can be found at Glenfern Sanctuary.
