Lodge guests gather in the evenings, warmed by blazing log fires to
savour first class table d'hôte cuisine. Attention to detail in the use
of the freshest local organic produce teamed with New Zealand wines from
a connoisseur wine cellar create an exceptional dining experience.
Pen-y-bryn is located on the southern
boundary of Historic Oamaru on the East Coast of the South Island, one hour north of Dunedin, half way (3 hours) between
Christchurch and Queenstown, and just 2 hours drive from Mt Cook.

Pen y bryn Lodge is an Historic Mansion that carries a category one Historic Places Trust classification - a

Pen-y-bryn Lodge offers exclusive heritage accommodation in an historic, boutique style hotel

Step
through the crisp lead lighted doors of the Main Entrance
of Pen y bryn Lodge into the vestibule to be met by your hosts Roy and Bernice. A glance around the entrance
shows a selection of prints and furniture original to the
property from the 1880's including a marvellous example of a carved antique settle with a
table and chair.

The
spacious Drawing Room at
Pen y bryn Lodge with its welcoming fireplace where guests gather to settle into one
of the comfortable sofas to relax. Pre-dinner drinks served from impressive mahogany sideboard
can be enjoyed while viewing the Pacific Ocean through the large picture window.

Dining at Pen-y-bryn Lodge resembles a private dinner party, with guests seated at a large antique table.
The blend of nationalities, ages and interests ensures convivial dining. However, honeymooning couples
and other guests who prefer a more intimate setting for their meals are welcome to request a private
dining room. The Dining Room contains some beautiful architectural elements acquired when the house was
commissioned. The suspended plaster ceiling was imported from Florence, the bookcase carved in London,
the fireplace carved in Italy. A French round table circa 1800 and stunning stained
lead lighted windows,
replicas of Alfred Lord Tennyson's, add to the ambience of the room.
Dining in this
room is an experience to remember.

A separate guest Library
at Pen-y-bryn Lodge
houses a large selection of books, all of which are available to guests during
their stay. Guests interested in watching television or a video are also catered for. Along with the conservatory,
Drawing Room, gracious Dining room - all of which are aesthetically decorated and furnished - as well as extensive verandahs, outdoor terraces and restful gardens, makes Pen-y-bryn Lodge the perfect place to relax, unwind and indulge.

has a large Billiard Room complete with a full sized competition table with all the necessary accoutrements.
The ceiling and the ornate wooden fireplace are solid Rimu (a NZ native timber). An impressive open fire adds warmth
on cooler evenings. A Victorian chaise lounge and two chairs at the far end of the room catch the afternoon sun and
make a perfect place to relax with a good book. An external door from this area leads out to the Oamaru
stone terrace and formal rose gardens. |

Pen-y-bryn Lodge is a small luxury hotel offering exclusive Lodge style
accommodation in five elegant
and superbly appointed guestrooms with modern ensuite facilities, in a hillside location overlooking
historic Oamaru with views of sea and mountains.
Each guest room at Pen-y-bryn
Lodge,
with its personalised name and character, has been appointed to the highest standard, with 100% cotton bed
linen, 100% pure wool underlay, duvet and comfortable feather & down pillows. Monogrammed bathrobes and
hand-embroidered face cloths add a personal touch.
A full range of quality, New Zealand
accessories, toiletries, hairdryers and valet amenities are available. Guests can also enjoy herbal or traditional
tea from a fine bone china tea service or a cup of freshly ground coffee with Lodge baked biscuits, NZ chocolates
or fresh fruit from their Butlers Tray.

The Elizabeth Room in the main
at Pen-y-bryn Lodge building and was originally the maid's room. The en suite still
features the original large pedestal porcelain bath with Victorian brass fittings with French Doors
leading into the private formal courtyard

The Victoria Room in the main
at Pen-y-bryn Lodge
is characterised by its antique oak furnishings. This room, which overlooks
the Oamaru stone terrace and gardens, basks in the afternoon sun.

Three
rooms are located in the Oamaru stone Annex on the first floor. This building (within 3 metres of the main house) was constructed at the
same time as Pen-y-bryn Lodge as a utility building but has been extensively redesigned and refurbished in 1995. |
The Park is a dedicated twin room with two king-single beds and overlooks the extensive potager
garden within the lodge grounds with Awamoa Park in the background. A rollaway bed is available if required
for a third person.

The
Garden room, as its name implies, overlooks the garden at the rear
of the property. Of interest is the view of the original garden trellis work.

Nest, is a queen room with sleigh bed . It not only faces the sea
but also a large elm tree planted in the late 1800's. This room is popular with Honeymooners.

Cuisine
Dining at Pen-y-bryn is simply
outstanding. Guests are seated together at a large mahogany table where good
conversation, great food and wine ensure your evening dining is a truly
memorable occasion. Attention to detail in the use of the freshest local organic
produce teamed with New Zealand 5 star wines from a connoisseur wine cellar
create a dining experience unrivalled.
Pen-y-bryn's resident chef changes the menu daily to reflect the seasons and features New Zealand classics such
as Lamb, Venison, locally caught Blue Cod, West Coast Whitebait and Mt Cook Salmon. Local flavours are a highlight
- with an emphasis on locally grown (often organic), including Lodge grown, produce as well as Whitestone Cheeses
to tempt guests.
At Pen-y-bryn we delight in catering to the individual needs of our guests so please notify us if you have any particular
dietary requirements.
Evening attire is smart casual - ties and jackets are not required.
Breakfast is served at a time to suit guests. Choose from a selection of

- Toasted Lodge-made fresh breads, brioche and/or muffins served with a selection of

at Pen-y-bryn Lodge is a highlight with guests seated together at the
large mahogany table with a blazing log fire in the background. The blend of
nationalities, ages and interests ensures convivial dining. However,
honeymooning couples and other guests who prefer a more intimate setting for
their meals are welcome to request a private dining room. The candlelit table
adorned with fresh flowers, sparkling crystal, crisp white linen and polished
silver add to the overall luxurious atmosphere.
