itinerary for Stewart Island

Day
1: |
Familiarisation tour of Island (1½-2 hrs), visit
fernery, conservation department and museum. Kiwi spotting (at night
8.30pm-midnight). Pre-booking essential.
STEWART ISLAND IS THE ONLY PLACE IN THE
WORLD TO SEE THE BROWN KIWI IN ITS NATURAL HABITAT

| Day
2: |
| Nature watch to outlying
Islands. Visit Ulva Island for a guided walk,(9.00am-1.00pm -- Lodge can
supply packed lunch if required). Walk to Ackers Point to view Sooty
Shearwaters coming in to visit their nests (seasonal). It is also possible
to see little blue penguins as well (8.30pm-11.30 pm).
STEWART ISLAND HAS THE LARGEST ACCESSIBLE POPULATION OF NEW
ZEALAND NATIVE BIRDS

Walk one of the many well maintained tracks through
beautiful podacarp forest (lodge provides a packed lunch if required).

4: |
Visit the old whaling base, salmon, mussel farms,
and catch a fish (1pm-5pm). Fishing attracts large numbers of sea birds
very close to the boats, such as mollymawks (albatross), mutton birds,
cape pigeons, etc. |

At
your discretion, lots of rest and relaxation, or play a round of golf on
the southern-most 6-hole golf course. |
