Wharekauhau Lodge is recognised as one of the world’s exclusive
retreats. The Lodge is the heart of Wharekauhau Lodge. Modeled on
an Edwardian country mansion, Wharekauhau Lodge was designed by
Queenstown Architect Fred van Brandenburg, and it is here that
guests dine and mingle.

beauty and massive fireplaces recapture the grandeur of
yester-year.
Expansive
sofas and deep armchairs are dotted around the living room and
hall at Wharekauhau Lodge, inviting guests to pause for conversation, a quiet glass
of fine wine, or to take up a good book.
Come
evening, guests gather in the Wharekauhau Lodge living room for aperitifs,
before moving to the dining room, where elegantly decked
tables promise a feast to remember.

Accommodation at Wharekauhau Lodge
Luxury accommodation at
Wharekauhau Lodge is provided in self-contained cottages. Designed
for privacy and comfort, they are perfect for honeymooners.
Dotted throughout the Wharekauhau Lodge estate, the cottages house
the Wharekauhau Lodge
guest suites and offer superb ocean views.
Natural materials are used throughout the Wharekauhau Lodge guest suites,
including clay tiles, pebble mosaics, plastered walls, rich
New Zealand wool carpeting, cotton bed linen and hemp
curtains.
Each suite has a super king sized four poster bed, television,
open fireplace, under floor heating, deep sofas, a fully
stocked bar, and dressing room with full length mirror.
In keeping with the peace which surrounds Wharekauhau Lodge, guests
can choose to leave the outside world behind for a while.
However, we are happy to equip guests’ suites with daily
newspapers, and radio on request. Wharekauhau also offers
Internet access and conference calling facilities should
guests require them.
A 3 bedroom cottage, located 4km from Wharekauhau Lodge but with
access to lodge and its facilities is also available.

The Wharekauhau Lodge menu changes to reflect the seasons and features
New Zealand classics such as rack of lamb, venison, pigeon
breast, crab broth and crayfish. Local flavours are a
highlight - with an award winning selection of local wines,
including Palliser Estate, Ata Rangi, Martinborough Vineyard
and Murdoch James. Kapiti cheese and Olivo extra virgin olive
oil are just a few examples of local produce used. We also
offer organic produce, including a range of refreshing organic
beers.

Dining at
Wharekauhau Lodge resembles a private dinner party, with guests
seated at grand tables. The blend of nationalities, ages and
interests ensures convivial dining. However, honeymooning
couples and other guests who prefer a more intimate setting
for their meals are welcome to request a private dining room.
At Wharekauhau Lodge we are happy to cater to the particular needs
of our guests. As our meals are planned at least a week in
advance, please notify us early if you have any particular
dietary requirements.
Evening attire is smart casual - ties and dinner suits are not
required. For male guests, a long sleeved dress shirt,
trousers and dress shoes suffice, although jackets are
preferred.
Activities
Wharekauhau
Lodge offers gentle activities such as croquet, pentanque and
backgammon. Or you can work out in our fully equipped
gymnasium, take in some laps of the heated indoor pool, or
play a few sets on our astro-turf tennis court.
For guests seeking an adrenalin rush, we offer a four wheel
drive safari, horse trekking, and trap shooting on our private
clay field, set in spectacular rural terrain.
